The Dunedin Cadbury Chocolate Carnival 2010 programme is due for release in February 2010. Keep an eye on this website for future developments and updates on new and exciting events to be held during the week of festivities in Dunedin.

The 2010 festival, themed "food for thought" will stimulate your senses, inspiring discussion on the intersection between food and science. From farm to fork, topics such as food production, nutrition and consumption will be on the menu. Be prepared to be challenged.

Two world renowned experts have been confirmed for the 2010 New Zealand International Science Festival.

In keeping with the theme, the visiting experts have expertise associated with environmental issues and health.

Light up the longest night with your own lantern and be part of the Carnival Procession. Every year the public are invited to attend lantern making workshops prior to Carnival night. Almost anyone can make a lantern and its heaps of fun. All materials are provided and trained instructors are on hand. This is a great family activity. Children must be accompanied by an adult. It takes roughly two hours to make a lantern.

On June 26th over 5,000 spectators will swarm Dunedin’s city centre to watch a spectacular Lantern Procession to celebrate the longest night and shortest day.

This year the Lantern Procession, the highlight of the Dunedin Midwinter Carnival, is in its’ 11th year and has a ‘Creatures of the Sea’ theme. Spectators will be enchanted by a glowing stream of over 700 people, 250 hand-made lanterns, 10 giant lanterns, costumed dancers, stilt walkers, musicians, and fire-works.

For one morning only Dunedin’s hugely popular Farmer’s Market will be enlivened by performance and music busking acts.

All ages will be able to enjoy a feast of spectacular performance in the heart of the Dunedin.

Bring some dosh to feed the buskers!

The Dunedin Fringe is an annual festival of innovative and experimental art by emerging and established artists from Dunedin, throughout New Zealand, and overseas guests.

The 2009 Dunedin Fringe brought a vibrant and engaging feast of artistic work to the central city. It featured 250 artists who presented 50 events over 11 days to an audience of over 10,000.

The 2010 Festival runs from March 18-28.

Year of the Tiger

2010 is the Year of the Tiger. Join in the celebrations at the Dunedin Chinese Garden for two weeks of fun and entertainment.

The World Cinema Showcase, the mini-festival presented every autumn by the organisers of the mammoth mid-winter NZ International Film Festival, is now 12 years old. For two weeks each autumn, filmgoers in Dunedin can feast on a menu of quality films from around the world. This friendly and accessible festival aims to celebrate all genres of film, celebrating the talents of new and not-so-new filmmakers. The programme is still being confirmed so continue to check the website for updates.

SummerFun '09 kicks off on Saturday 24 January at 9.15am in the Octagon when Dunedin's own Rally New Zealand driver Emma Gilmour joins Mayor Peter Chin to start the 55th Dunedin to Brighton Veteran Car Club Run.

With a programme of over 30 events taking place from 24 January through until the end of February there is something for everyone.
