2010 is the Year of the Tiger. Join in the celebrations at the Dunedin Chinese Garden for two weeks of fun and entertainment.
Sunday 14 February
Chinese New Year’s Day
As 6:00pm chimes Mayor Peter Chin starts off the two weeks of celebrations as he ‘wakens the Lion’ in front of the Dunedin Chinese Garden. See the Lion Dance performances at 6:00pm, 8:00pm and 10:00pm, snack on some Chinese delights and enjoy a visit to the Garden. Find the best viewing spot ready for the fantastic fi reworks display at 10:00pm. Visit the Chinese Display at the Otago Settlers’ Museum, next to the Garden, open until 8:00pm. The display tells the fascinating story of Otago Chinese from 1865 onwards. Free entry to the Garden between 6:00pm and 10:15pm.

Chinese New Year Closing Celebrations
Gather in the Octagon and listen out for the drums heralding the arrival of the Dragon at 2:00pm. Follow the Dragon as it dances its way to the Dunedin Chinese Garden where it will be greeted with Fireworks on the P’ai Lau. Collect your ‘lucky envelope’ and snack on some Chinese cuisine as you enjoy the entertainment at the Dunedin Chinese Garden. Unless otherwise stated, all activities will take place at the Dunedin Chinese Garden, corner of Rattray and Cumberland Streets, Dunedin. (Next to the Otago Settlers’ Museum).
