It might be the tantalising smell of cocoa beans being made into chocolate or the aroma of a freshly brewed coffee that’s leading you by the nose around the streets of Dunedin. The true experience begins when you stop to sample the wares. Start your Saturday at the Farmer’s market with a bacon buttie and coffee, then venture on to one of the suggested places below. Dunedin has some outstanding restaurants and coffee houses waiting to tempt you.
Option #1
- The farmers market is situated at the Northern end of the railway station. Reputed to be one of the best farmers markets in New Zealand. Every Saturday morning from 8.00am
- Watch how Cadbury makes it's famous chocolate bars on a 75 minute Cadbury World chocolate tour
- Enjoy a wander along St Clair and St Kilda beach. Have lunch overlooking the surfers at Swell Café
- Take a swim in St Clair Hot Salt water pool (open 24th Oct -31st March)
Option #2
- Take a 15 minute drive to Port Chalmers and check out The Design Store or one of the many art and designer stores
- Enjoy a coffee or lunch at one the cafes in Port Chalmers
- Drive back to Dunedin for a 45 minute Gourmet Ice Cream tour learn how you make ice cream and chocolates
- Take the 6pm tour of Speight’s sampling six of the best beers before enjoying some good southern fare at Speight’s Ale House
